God's Son is not only the Savior and Shepherd of the body, but He alone is the only source of life and real growth in His church. Therefore, in everything we do - as a local assembly, and as individuals - we are admonished in God's Word to be drawing directly upon the invigorating and sustaining power of the Lord Jesus Himself (Colossians 2:18-19Let no one keep defrauding you of your prize by delighting in self-abasement and the worship of angels, taking his stand on visions he has seen, inflated without cause by his fleshly mind, and not holding fast to the head, from whom the entire body, being supplied and held together by the joints and ligaments, grows with a growth which is from God.). Our desire is to be learning more and more how to hold fast to Christ. This overriding focus on the Lord Jesus Christ needs to be the preeminent objective not only in what we do, but also in how we do it (1 Corinthians 2:1-5And when I came to you, brethren, I did not come with superiority of speech or of wisdom, proclaiming to you the testimony of God. For I determined to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and Him crucified. And I was with you in weakness and in fear and in much trembling. And my message and my preaching were not in persuasive words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, that your faith should not rest on the wisdom of men, but on the power of God.).
